Lomaiviti Princess 5 Arrives In November

Goundar Shipping Services is expecting its 5th vessel in November.

Owner and managing director, George Goundar said the Canadian vessel; MV Queen of Nanaimo is an investment of $2.5 million.

The vessel is 130m long and can accommodate over 1000 passengers. It will be named the ‘MV Lomaiviti Princess V’ and will employ 60 crew members, load at least 40 trucks and 40 other vehicles, he said.

The vessel will operate on the Suva-Savusavu route on a daily basis starting in December

Mr Goundar said 18 of his crew members will be leaving for Canada next month with two of the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) surveyors for a month’s training.

They will bring the vessel home, he said.

“MV Lomaiviti Princess V will help boost the shipping industry.

“Improving our service is always our focus,” said Mr Goundar.

“We always try to improve our service all the time, and hear the cry of the public.

Lastly Mr Goundar acknowledges the Government for giving him the green light to come back to Fiji and improve the shipping industry which is something he’s always passionate about Fiji.

MV Queen of Nanaimo is a Burnaby-class passenger vessel operated by British Columbia Ferry Services Inc.

The ship was built in 1964 by Victoria Machinery Depot.
