Two foreign vessels the bulk carrier Storm Rider and general cargo vessel Capitaine Quiros will be berthing at Suva Port on August 19.

According to Wikipedia general cargo vessels vary in length between 80 and 160 m, the latter having a deadweight of about 20.000 tons. The cargo holds of these multi purpose vessels are able to handle both containers and all sorts of cargo.

Dependent of the specific trade, the ships vary from medium speed, slender project cargo vessels to slow speed extremely high block vessels with a large load capacity.

These ships have a greater capacity for high temperatures along with the capacity to tolerate very low temperatures. It is prepared with on deck cranes and other types of heavy machinery which helps in easy and independent loading and unloading of cargo.

Any sea vessel that transports container cargo is called a container ship and the method used for freight goods is called containerization rather than bulk cargo. These vessels transport all kinds of goods from small toys to the big manufacturing goods.

Bulk carriers are used to transport unloaded bulk cargo like fertilizers, coal, cement, steel, grains and metal ores.

Bulk carriers handle more than 40 percent of the total cargo handled in the world.

Huge bulk carriers are usually considered as capsize vessels, however, sometimes these ships are considered as a distinct entity.

The two vessels will be unloading cargoes for local companies at Suva Port.
