Prime Minister and COP23 President, Voreqe Bainimarama, updated the Australian government on Fiji’s extensive preparatory works in the lead-up to COP23 at a meeting in Suva with the Australia’s lead climate negotiator and Ambassador for Environment, Patrick Suckling.

The PM thanked Ambassador Suckling for Australia’s support to the Fijian Presidency.

He also expressed his keen interest to work with the Australian government to advance Fiji’s presidential agenda at the negotiations in Bonn, Germany, in November, particularly the objective to limit global temperature rise to the more ambitious target of 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

The meeting was also attended by Attorney-General and Minister Responsible for Climate Change, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, and the Minister for Agriculture and High-Level Climate Champion, Inia Seruiratu.
