Fijian Holdings Limited Group Chief Executive Officer Nouzab Fareed says that it is important to walk the talk on empowering women.

“Empowering women isn’t just the right thing to do- it’s the smart thing to do. Gender equality is more than a goal in itself. It is a precondition for meeting the challenge of reducing poverty, promoting sustainable development and building good governance.

“Gender inequality holds back the growth of individuals, the development of countries and the evolution of societies, to the disadvantage of both men and women,” he said.

He said FHL was known locally to be a trendsetter in gender diversity, providing fair opportunities to women within the workforce to move up to the topmost level.

“It is important to recognize women bring a totally different perspective to decision making at board level thus making the whole process more efficient and effective.

“According to Mr Fareed recently, the company has set a new benchmark of 31% percent female participation in the group which is among the highest for female participation in any corporate boards in Fiji and it is something that they are proud of. The women are appointed based on their merits and they are doing great job.

“We also get four of our key Heads of companies are females including CEO of FTV and Acting CEO of Merchant Finance Ltd.

“Among our group functional heads, three out of five are females. We are also proud that we have been successfully train at least half of these newly elected female directors through Australian Institute of Company Directors.

“FHL he adds is a proud supporter of gender diversity.

They believe that gender diversity is important for good governance and the benefits of mixed gender leadership teams are well known.

“We as a good corporate citizen, we recognize equality as cardinal principle in business.”
