The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service opened their new office in Nausori yesterday worth $320 000.

Residents and business leaders in the Rewa, Tailevu, Nataisiri and surrounding areas no longer have to travel to Suva to access services from the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service.

This is their eleventh branch in the country.

Chief executive officer Visvanath Das said the office will cater for approximately 150,000 customers.

“We value your tax contributions and will be making every effort to work more closely with you all to ensure that together we all help grow our Fijian economy.”

He said, taxes contribute to the education of all Fijians.

It ensure a healthy nation, connect communities through roads, airports and bridges and ensures public services,” said Mr Das.

The opening of the new office is part of the Revenue and Customs three-year strategic plan.

The increase in cases of tax evasion had surfaced recently, the Revenue and Customs are working on strengthening their compliance regime to enable them to catch any tax evaders, he said.

Mr Das added that the Revenue and Customs Service will be keeping a close eye on companies that fail to pass on duty or VAT reductions.

The new office employs eight staff members, four tax staff, three Airport customs officers and a joint ID card officer.

Commissioner Central Setareki Tale thanked the Revenue and Customs Service for their commitment and initiative to delivering their services to those in the rural areas.

New taxpayer and business registration

Lodging and payments of tax returns

Joint card applications

Issuance of TIN Letters

Customer queries on tax and customs issues which may be unclear

Tax compliance certification
