The John Stewart-captained Fiji Airways Drua side has an emphatic objective to win the 2017 National Rugby Championship on its debut year.

Comprised local players, coach Senirusi Seruvakula has openly challenged his 26-member squad to make it count from the first game against Brisbane City at Ballymore Stadium on Saturday.

“The boys are ready to make Fiji proud, our aim is to win all our games,” he said.

The team left for Brisbane yesterday.

“It’s going to be tough but we have a plan and an objective to achieve.

“These are our best local players and they have been part of our “Some of them have been as Telecom Fijian Warriors for the past three years. But the NRC is a new ball game and is huge for Fiji.

“They are very excited and ready to see how they perform out there in the first match.  There are very close to each other and they are blending well.

He said having players from the impressive BLK Nadroga side is a boost.

Seruvakula said having this competition will boost the local provincial competition in the coming years.

“We will take part in the NRC for the next three years and we need to make the most of it.”

Brisbane City, founded in 2014, won the NRC in 2015, and will be boosted with prominent players Quade Cooper, Chris Kuridani, Samu Kerevi, Henry Taefu, Karmichael Hunt, Kane Douglas and Nick Frisby.
