Tragedy:Man Hit By Bus Dies

A 62-year-old man died instantly when he was run down by a bus at Samabula, Suva on Saturday night.

Police spokesperson Inspector Jokatama Qio confirmed the incident saying that the bus was turning into Belo Street when the man allegedly crossed the road suddenly.

He said no further details could be revealed and the postmortem would be conducted today. Inspector Qio said the driver was taken in for questioning and released on Saturday night. No charges have been laid.


Two accidents in Tailevu

There were two accidents in Tailevu yesterday morning.

Police spokesperson Inspector Jokatama Qio said the first accident in Nabouva was attended to by Korovou police officers.

He said the accident involved two vehicles that collided and the drivers were taken to Korovou Police Station for questioning.

At Namulomulo, Kings Road, an Intercity bus and a twin cab were involved in an accident where Nausori police officers attended to the matter. It is understood the twin cab was carrying passengers when the accident happened near Savu in Tailevu.

Inspector Qio said he could not give further details on how many passengers were in the bus or if any were injured, when this edition went to press.


Minor accident

An elderly man was involved in an accident at Reservoir Road, Suva last night.

A passenger of the vehicle who wished to remain anonymous said that the vehicle’s brake failed and it rolled into a drain.

It is understood that no one was injured.

Police comments could not be obtained when this edition went to press.

    How come Old Bomb Tow truck is there to tow bus,why Police and LTA did not take any action or charged driver for driving defective truck.
