As a mother and housewife, completing her studies was the last thought on Vasiti Locawai’s mind.

She was among the 473 students that graduated at the Technical College of Fiji, Nabua campus on Monday.

Ms Locawai said she was thankful that education opportunities were provided by Government in order to assist those who wished to complete their studies.

“I have achieved my goal and have graduated with a National Certificate in Automotive Mechanical Engineering from CP Singh Campus, Navua and I have plans to set up my own garage,” she said.

“I did not see myself as a student especially in a male-dominated field.

“I am thankful and am very appreciative of Technical College setup around Fiji because it gives us hope that even with our busy schedules at home we can still study and graduate with a National Certificate.”

Similar sentiments were shared by Nabua Sanatan College campus graduate Ashish Sandeep Kumar. He was grateful for the chance to complete his education in a technical field.

“I left school at Class Eight and I later joined Technical College to get a trade certificate which helped me get a job. I finally have achieved my goal by graduating from Technical College.

“I am hoping that with the lifelong skills that I have attained I want to set up my own garage in the next five to 10 years.”
