Pacific Cement Limited (PCL) wish to announce that it has imported 25,000 tonnes of cement from Vietnam and the same arrives in Fiji on September 7, 2017.

The vessel will unload 8000 tonnes in Lautoka and the rest in Suva. Pacific Cement Ltd decided to import cement in order to ease the increasing market demand.

PCL selected the supplier from Vietnam based on its superior quality in line with the standards adopted by PCL in the past. PCL conducted an independent test to verify the quality prior importation. There will be no change in price of cement.

Pacific Cement is planning to shut down its cement plant at Lami for three weeks commencing September 20 to carry out major repair works.

All required parts have reached the plant and at least 15 engineers and technicians from Australia and New Zealand will work on the repairs.

Nouzab Fareed Group chief executive officer for Fijian Holdings Ltd and Director of Pacific Cement Ltd said: “As the largest cement supplier in the country, it is our duty to inform the general public about the expected closure.

“We are confident the following the repair, PCL will be able to produce more cement than before.”

The total investments in the planned repairs and maintenance is close to $2 million and this would be the biggest investment made on the plant for the last 10 years. PCL got adequate stocks to cater to the market during the mill shut down.

Sowani Tuidrola chief executive officer for PCL said: “We have been producing at 85 per cent for the last two months and have produced and sold more than 22,000 tonnes of cement. During the three weeks of factory closure, PCL will install a brand new cement mill motor, trunnion gear, dust collectors and sile sensors.”

PCL manufactures high quality GP and GB cement for Fiji and for the region. Pacific Cement Ltd is a joint venture between Fijian Holdings Ltd and Vinod Patel Group.
