Athletics Fiji donated sporting equipment worth $4818 to the Fijian National Sports Commission yesterday.

The donation is for the Kids Outreach Community programme.

With Pacific Sports Partnership heavily involved in kids athletics programme, Athletics Fiji thought it would be a good investment to donate the kit to the National Sports Commission.

Athletics Fiji development officer Albert Miller was grateful with their partnership.

“The commission has been running programmes in the rural and urban areas for the past few years and they haven’t been given the recognition they rightfully deserved,” Miller said.

“One of the main objectives of Pacific Sports Partnership programme is assisting organisations that are doing this kind of work in the community.  A few other areas we are looking at are working with women leadership in sports,” Miller said.

Athletics Fiji president Joe Rodan Senior echoed the same sentiments and applauded commission executive chairman Peter Mazey.

“I want to thank Peter and his team for coming on board. This will help us fulfil the strategies that the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) and Athletics Fiji want to fulfil.

“This is the partnership we have been looking at in a long, long time,” Rodan said. Mazey said conducting outreach community programme will assist in identifying new talents.

“We are proud to work with Athletics Fiji, they started their four years development programme two years ago. We have involved 37,000 kids in the programme in primary schools around the country. And now we will identify talent and hand them over to Athletics Fiji,” Mazey said.
