Three Bank South Pacific (BSP) staff members took part in the WOWS (Walk On Walk Strong) Kids Fiji ‘Shave it or Save it’ campaign yesterday in Suva.

The trio were BSP country manager Kevin McCarthy, BSP fleet administrator Inoke Ruramate and BSP Finance general manager Krishna Raju.

Mr McCarthy also handed over a cheque of $20,000 on behalf of the bank and its staff to WOWS Kids Fiji. This to assist cancer awareness and treatment initiatives.

Mr McCarthy acknowledged the efforts of WOWS Kids Fiji and the Fiji Cancer Society in assisting cancer patients and their families.

Mr McCarthy said the staff members raised under $15,000 and the bank topped up the amount to make it $20, 000.

“We will continue to support cancer treatment in Fiji. WOWS is one of our favourite charities and we love what’s being done for the kids. We also will support the breast cancer awareness in October and November as well.”

WOWS Kids Fiji Board chairperson Luisa Tagicakibau thanked BSP for their timely assistance.

“It’s heart warming and very gracious of you to show such generosity. Thank you for believing in the work of WOWS Kids,” Ms Tagicakibau said.

“As you know, most of the kids who go through this journey, constantly make visits to the hospitals for blood transfusions and treatments. Some cancer patients, when they do their chemotherapy, they lose their hair but in our cases, you choose. The reality for some of those patients is that they don’t have a choice.”

Ms Tagicakibau added that every child would be assisted by WOWS Kids Fiji with the funds provided.

She said there was an increase in the reports of children with cancer and in order to support them WOWS Kids carry out fundraising drives every year.

“‘Shave and save’ is one of the big events that rakes in quite a substantive amount to sustain the operations that’s administered to the children,” she said.

“We will also be having another ‘shave it or save it’ campaign with Div Damodar at the end of the month and we’ll be announcing the total amount of funds raised at the end of the year.”
