The Korean Government will contribute US$110,000 (about F$221,023) in funding for Fiji’s presidency of COP23 in Bonn, Germany.

This announcement was made by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Korea, Jeong-kyu Lee at the heads of delegation meeting with Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, Minister of National Security and Defence of Fiji at the Pacific Islands Forum in Apia, Samoa.

They discussed issues on bilateral relations, international co-operation, regional and global issues such as climate change.

“Korea anticipates Fiji to exercise outstanding leadership in orchestrating the COP23 which is crucial for maintaining momentum towards the successful conclusion of the on-going post-Paris Agreement negotiations and consolidating the international cooperation against climate change, and therefore the Korean government is offering its support for and assistance to Fiji in achieving the successful COP23,” a release from the Korean Government said.

As one of the Fiji’s best friends, it said Korea would continue to extend its support and help to Fiji in the global arena in the days to come.

Ratu Inoke also met with Tonga’s caretaker Prime Minister Akilisi Pohiva.
