What happened: South Africa defeated the Fijian Pearls 83-36 in the last match of the Digicel/Punjas International Test Series at the Vodafone Arena last night.

South Africa captain Bongiwe Msomi said they would love to come back to Fiji.

“This is a wonderful country with beautiful people. This is the first time for us to come here and I love it. I will love to come back to Fiji for holidays,” Msomi said.

The Fijian Pearls got off to a strong start in the first quarter as they were able to hold the strong South Africans 18-13.

The visitors showed their class in the second quarter as the Fijians struggled to cope as the Spar Proteas led 39-22 at halftime.

South Africa continues to dominate in the third quarter having the advantage of experienced players in mid court area and shooting circle.

But the Fijians played an entertaining game with the inclusion of Maliana Rusivakula at goal attack, Talei Waqainabete on wing attack. South Africa extended their lead to 60-31.

The visitors continue to enjoy possessions in the final quarter demolishing Fijians 83-36.

Big Play; South Africans dominated all areas and proved too strong.

Big Play; Fijian U21 reps Episake Kahatoka, Talei Waqainabete and  Maliana Rusivakula stood out for Fiji.

Comments; Fijian captain Vaiti Waqatabu strongly feels they need to step up on their fitness.

 

 

“We seriously need to work on our fitness level and our combination as we build up for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.”
