Twenty six drivers have marched in for a three week course whereby a warning was issued by the Acting Commissioner on what was required of their new roles.

Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu stressed the task of operating a police owned vehicle shoulders a lot of responsibility both within and outside the organisation.

“Members of the public when they see a police vehicle they don’t expect to see you driving in a reckless manner or disregarding road rules”.

“Remember that the road rules also apply to you and unless it is an operational emergency I don’t expect to be receiving complaints about the abuse of authority”.

The Acting Commissioner also reiterated the importance of looking after the vehicles which will be assigned to them once they become authorized drivers.

“The Government has been very supportive of our operational needs by providing more vehicles and it is imperative therefore that we look after the vehicles and this is where your role as drivers will be vital”.

The drivers will undergo a three week course before becoming authorized drivers for the organization.

ACP Tudravu stressed the need to value the opportunity given by the organisation.

“Out of the hundreds that applied you were chosen, so please do not take this opportunity for granted as the Fiji Police Force is a great place to expand your career”.

“The decision you make today will decide the path your life takes so if you chose to take all that I have said seriously you should have a wonderful career as a police officer, decide otherwise and you will have a short career with the Fiji Police Force”.

The three week training is being held at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova.
