The Fijian women’s volleyball team were reminded by President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote at Borron House, Suva.

This was after players and officials presented their (traditional farewell) yesterday before they fly out today for the World Championship second round qualifier on September 20-24 in Kazakhstan.

“I would like to congratulate you all for making it to the Fiji national team, well done and thank you so much for your effort and commitment,” he said.

“I am very proud to receive on behalf of the Government and the people of Fiji.

“I was told that this is the first time in the recent history that the federation is participating in this tournament.

“So it is great that you seek the nation’s blessings before you depart to compete in the second round of qualifier in Kazakhstan.

“I hope you all have a safe travel and interact well with fellow competitors. I have with every confidence aware that you have prepared well for this championship and have sacrificed a lot for you separate families.

“Also, would like to show my gratitude to the team officials and coach for their hard work. The Government through the Fijian National Sports Commission has assisted the team and I appreciate that.”

He also appreciated the recognition and achievement of the Fiji Volleyball Federation in the recent championship.

“You now depart our shores with the nation’s blessings and good wishes also would like to acknowledge the progress the sport has made since the formation of the federation in the country during the 1970’s.

“I wish you all an enjoyable trip and safe trip to Kazakhstan and be great ambassadors for our country and people on and off the field.”

Fiji is pooled with China, Australia and Chinese Taipei.
