Kontiki Finance is looking for a retail office space in the main street of Labasa Town as they plan to provide service after six months.

This was revealed during their short presentation on the term deposit product at a cocktail function at Grand Eastern Hotel in Labasa on Thursday night.

Kontiki Finance head of products and distribution Phillip Lacey said he has been in Labasa for three weeks talking to property owners and they have only one prospect which is now ideal.

“Labasa is very difficult in terms of availability of rental space in the main street,” Mr Lacey said.

“So it will probably take us six to 12 months to secure a space that can have three to four customers waiting and talking to staff at the ground floor on the main street.

“We will continue to come to Labasa to talk and let people know that we are a very big company in Fiji and they may have opportunity coming up. We have over 65 staff in the company and have over a 100 million assets under the management,” he said.

“We do loans for people who want to buy motor cars, people who want to have a holiday, pay off other lenders, borrow assets, and buy buses trucks, equipment and many more.

“Eighty per cent of our business is for Fijians, so we do lot of credit contract loans for personal reasons.

“With the population in Labasa and with the changing demography, we think over the next six or nine months we can get an office established here.

“Our main office in Suva and lot of people do transact over the emails and phone calls,” he said.

The company’s future plan is to open an office in Lautoka.

Kontiki Finance head of business support Mike Worsp said they are a local, secure and innovative company.

“We are easy to get in touch with and anyone who makes deposit with us is capital guaranteed and safe,” Mr Worsp said.

“We have dozens of shareholders and we have plenty of liquids and we are growing.

“Any customer or person in Fiji, no matter where they are as long as they have internet cable phone or computer can apply for a loan online with a same day pre-approval.

“Pre-approval means that they put the right information in, we can have a look it and give them a call asking for further documents.

“We are reaching out to the Fijian people in every way to give them the tools to be able to apply for loans or term deposits,” he said.

“The other that we are doing that is big is financial literacy.

“In this country financial literacy is very small.

“We have done road shows throughout 14 provinces in the country.

“What we are doing is that we are providing the tools to the educated and non–educated so that they have the ability to make an informed decision on the loan or on the term deposit they want to make.”

Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Satish Kumar said the plan for the office opening in Labasa was a good idea.

“I am excited to hear that they want to open a office in Labasa which means more opportunity and more service for the people of the North,” Mr Kumar said.

“Their service will surely bring benefit to all cross section of work of life and people both in urban and rural areas.”
