A nurse and mother is hoping that she will go home soon to look after her two-year-old daughter.

Loraini Vusoniceva, 28, who is still breastfeeding her baby, lies in hospital suffering a fractured left pelvic bone, two fractured left ribs, cuts and bruises on her feet and chest.

She is admitted at the Labasa Hospital after a vehicle bumped her on Thursday as she was walking to work on Siberia Road, Police have said.

“Here I am unable to move and walk and unable to breastfeed my daughter,” Ms Vosaniceva told Fiji Sun yesterday.

“The accident happened so fast that I found myself surprised to be in hospital, unable to move my body.”

Recalling the horrific ordeal, Ms Vosaniceva said: “Before 8am I left my house walking to work on the normal route.

“On that day I heard the vehicle but by the time I turned to my left I saw it spin on the road before hitting me.

“I fell down and before I lost consciousness, I saw the vehicle land on its side in front of me.

“I was later told that my uncle rushed me to the hospital while the driver was standing on the road,” she said.

While she rests on her hospital bed, Ms Vosaniceva’s baby is currently being cared for by a grandmother.

“My daughter just turned two and I have been breastfeeding her.

Ms Vusoniceva said: “Since I am not able to move, my mother immediately came home to look after my daughter.

My daughter came to visit me, crying perhaps she was thinking why I didn’t hold her like I used to do before. I have been on nil by mouth since the time of the accident because the doctors believe that I have bleeding inside and they want to make sure through various tests if I am really okay.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the car was driven by a 27-year-old mechanic of Siberia.

“The 28-year-old woman who was walking on the right-hand side of the road was bumped by the driver,” Ms Naisoro said.

“The victim is admitted at Labasa Hospital sustaining injuries. Investigation continues.”

She said they will conduct further investigations and other proceedings after they have interviewed Ms Vusoniceva.
