The 2017 ANZ Ratu Sukuna Bowl challenge was officially launched at the Nasova Police ground, Suva yesterday.

As usual tradition the annual clash between the Fiji Police Force and the Republic of the Fiji Military Force (RFMF) started with an open challenge

RFMF Commander, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto said this year would be the toughest game Police have ever had.

“We’ve been missing this trophy for a long time now,” he said.

“I always tell my people that playing for the Ratu Sukuna Bowl you have to empty out the tank of talent that God gives us. The talent that God gives us varies, some are very good singers, some are good rugby union, rugby league, volleyball players and some are musicians.

“I can guarantee you this will be one of the toughest games that you will ever play because you going to face people in various sports, that God gives them that talent and pour it out on the field.”

In his reply Assistant Commissioner Police (ACP) Rusiate Tudravu said they prefer to be David rather than be Goliath.

“We’re always humble in victory, we always take pride in saying history has a way in repeating itself. We’ve won the Ratu Sukuna Bowl three years in a row, 1970-1972, 1995- 1997, 2016 and 2017 so we will seal the hat-trick.

“Nasova accepts the challenge and we’ll make this happen, we like to be underdogs all the time, we prefer to be David rather than be Goliath. You create defence to win war but we break defence to capture victory.”

The Ratu Sukuna Bowl challenge is set for October 20 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.
