WORKSHOP:Westpac’s Financial Literacy Programme Upgrade Korovou Women

A group of 14 women living in Korovou Town, in Tailevu are enthusiastic about setting up their own business following their attending the Westpac free financial literacy workshop this week.

The leader of the Korovou Women’s Group Loata Buadromo expressed her gratitude for the skills and knowledge.

“I am grateful to Westpac, information and skills they had provided and shared with us have equipped us better in running our own little businesses,” Ms Buadromo said.

“Majority of us are homemakers who have little businesses from home, the new knowledge and information will assist us run sustainable businesses,” she said.

Peace Corps volunteer Julianne Insogna had coordinated these workshops with Westpac Fiji’s Microfinance Officer Maryangela Berwick, who started off with the basics of how to start a business, budgeting, saving, keeping financial records, and planning.

The workshop was part of Westpac Fiji’s suite of services to help transform the local economy for every day Fijians and teach them the basics of business so that they can go on to become entrepreneurs.

The one day workshop started with an hour of finance literacy followed by a one and half hour business training.

Ms Insogna then taught the women the basics of tie and dye. After the workshops the women expressed that what they learnt will be very beneficial and appreciated. They also appreciated the personal stories and words of encouragement that Ms Berwick shared with them.
