Ratu Kadavulevu School students, parents, teachers, old boys and supporters gathered to feast and party on an outstanding rugby achievement yesterday.

RKS won all six grades in the 2017 Coke Zero Deans Trophy competition last month.

Families and friends turned up in their RKS colours yesterday to join the celebration which started with a victory march from the chapel to the school ground.

The march was led by the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces band followed by the Under-14, U15, U16, U17, 18, U19 teams.

Chief guest/Ministry of Education permanent secretary Iowane Tiko, who is also the school’s manager, reminded the players how proud they were following the historical achievement.

Tiko also reminded the players to focus on their studies.

“After the celebration, you need to focus on your studies and as your school manager, you have my support.

“I have been discussing with  the principal if you can be given a glass of tea after your studies every night,”Tiko said.

The school with the support of the old boys association provided cakes for each grade.

It was a special and emotional moment for the school in not only recognising the rugby teams’ achievement but people who work behind the scenes.

This includes the water boys and medical team led by school matron Keba Koroi, mother of former national 7s rep Livai Ikanikoda.

Koroi who is like a mother figure to students of Delainakaikai said; “Today is the day to celebrate, we dance and just talk about the players achievement.”

School principal Peni Senikarawa commended their wives for their support.

“There are people who work behind the scenes when we go for games week in and week out.

“Early morning when we wake up we don’t help in preparing breakfast because we are always rushing out so we want to thank our wives for the support,” Senikarawa said.

The school teams were awarded prizes, certificates in recognition for their achievements.

The day was filled with merrymaking as thousands were entertained by the Fiji Police band, Voqa ni Delai Dokidoki, Malumu Ni Tobu Kei Navaukura and Leba Boi Yawa.
