An elderly member of Moala Village in Nadi yesterday commended Government for organising the Free Medicine Registration Drive organised by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

71-year-old Kiniviliame Momo was among the many who registered at Koroivolu Park in Nadi.

Mr Momo said such programmes would benefit him financially and also would allow accessibility and free medication that was prescribed for him.

“If it wasn’t for Government we wouldn’t be able to have this programme,” Mr Momo said.

“I am grateful as this will be much help to us financially seeing that I can spend up to $20 on one trip alone,” he said.

He travels from Moala village to Nadi Hospital, which is the closest health facility for his monthly check-up and also for his medication.

“Sometimes it is difficult for me to travel back and forth, as Nadi Hospital is the closest health facility and that is also where I get my medication.”

Mr Momo was diagnosed with a serious heart condition in 2009, and with his wife’s assistance he was able to change his lifestyle completely.

In mid June this year, Mr Momo faced a devastating set back after he lost his wife due to illness.

He said it was hard for him at first but he is still maintaining his diet and trying to live a healthy life.
