Midfielder Shafim Buksh steered Blues FC of Nadi to the semifinals of the Vodafone National Club Championship (NCC) after their 1-0 win over Navuso Barbarians at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

Nadi Football Association president Javed Ahmed said they are confident of Blues FC winning the NCC for the first time.

“They are a very good side and have a high chance of winning the NCC,” he said.

This will be the second time for Blues FC to have qualified for the semifinal stage of the championship.

The top Nadi club have the services of district reps William Valentine, Josefata Dugucagi, goalkeeper Samuela Tamanisau and Shafim Buksh. The last time a Nadi club won the NCC was 10 years ago.

Blues FC will play Bureta FC at 9am today in the first semifinal and Raymonds FC of Rewa take on Civic at 10.30am in the second semifinal at the Fiji Football Academy Ground in Suva.

After a thrilling two days of pool matches, Blues FC from Nadi are the lone qualifier from the Western division against Southern clubs of Bureta, Civic of Suva and Raymonds.

The final is set for 3pm. The winner gets $5000.
