Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College (SSKMC) of Nadi took the stage by storm when they performed a powerful pantomime based on theme climate change.

The school topped the COP23 Divisional School Competition at Natabua High School in Lautoka yesterday.

The pantomime featured an emotional performance of how climate change could destroy people’s lives and added with a little bit of humour from the characters of Charlie Chaplin.

Their powerful performance led them to win the pantomime category.

Dance director, Year 11 student, Pearl Prasad, said in within four days they managed to prepare themselves as well as the costumes.

“To add little humour to our pantomime we got some characters from the cartoon Tom & Jerry and also Charlie Chaplin because we knew we were performing in front of young children. They love comedy, and we want them to have fun but at the same time try to make them understand the impact of climate change,” she added.

Year 9 student, Albert Pickering acted as Charlie Chaplin; he said pantomime was the best way to raise awareness.

“The whole idea of our performance was to let students understand on what they can do to reduce the impact of climate change, action speaks louder than a word- this is the aim of the pantomime,” he added.
