Players in the Vodafone Fijian 7s extended squad have been given the green light to feature for their respective clubs in the upcoming local tournaments.

Coach Gareth Baber said a number of local tournaments are lined up for reps beginning with the Navua 7s this weekend at Thomson Park,

Baber, who is with the Fijian Barbarians in Munich, Germany for the Oktoberfest 7s which starts on Saturday, said players need to feature in local tournaments to gain maximum exposure.

This, if they are to be considered for international tournaments like the Central Coast 7s in Australia, Silicon Valley 7s in California and the World Sevens Series which starts in December in Dubai.

The extended squad are in camp in Sigatoka.

“We obviously have tournaments in the next couple of weeks,”Baber said.

“Players must play if they are to be considered. We have the Navua, Yasawa and Labasa tournaments.

“It is important that these players do get game time with their village clubs and among friends where they played previously and it is good for me to have them keep going.”

He said upon the return of the Fiji Barbarians team, two teams will be selected for Central Coast 7s and Silicon Valley 7s.

“This tournaments fall in consecutive weekends and players must be prepared.

“We need to be ready when the World Sevens Series starts in December and playing in build-up tournaments is important.”

Baber is expected to name his team for the two international outings next month.
