A team from the iTaukei Lands and Fisheries Commission (TLFC) will be at the Fiji Day celebration in San Francisco to register  iTaukei people  in the  Vola ni Kawa Bula (VKB) between October 6 to 8.

The team will be led by TLFC chairperson, Ratu Vananalagi Vesikula.

The VKB is the registry for all iTaukei births and deaths in relation to their mataqali (clan) and yavusa (tribe).

Ratu Vananalagi said the team would be carrying out their registration during the celebration.

He said most of the iTaukei living in the United States were not registered.

“This will be an opportune time for them to be registered,” he said.

This year a team had gone to Brisbane for VKB registration too.

He said in San Francisco they would be doing the whole works, marriages, births and deaths.

Ratu Vananalagi said for the iTaukei people registration on VKB was important as it was tied to land ownership.

An earlier release from TLFC said that iTaukei not registered in the VKB were not entitled to land ownership.

Ratu Vananalagi said most of the married iTaukei couples residing overseas might be registered in the VKB but their children were not.

He said they would be distributing VKB records to those in San Francisco to check whether they were registered.
