3 Gold Medals For Taekwondo

Team Fiji Taekwondo set a benchmark after it winning three gold medals at the New Zealand Union Taekwondo Championship in Wellington last weekend.

The team arrived yesterday after winning a total of 10 medals at the championship.


Shohil Chand, won the junior male Under-12 in the 35kg, Adam Valentine topped the Junior Male U17 in 64kg while Fiji’s third gold medal came from Aliya Valentine who won the junior female U16.

Coach Francis Nand said, “Competition was very good, very hard to win gold but we managed to get three gold, three silver and the kids were very young and all were under 18 except for one.

“This is ITF international Taekwondo Federation. It was very good exposure for them and first time Fiji took 10 athletes and competed against Australia and New Zealand.”

Nand said next on the agenda is to the invitation to participate in Australia next year.

Senior heavyweight: Adam Valentine. –
