Female boxer Katrina Singh is looking forward to record her first win against Mable Talei in their four-round fight.

The Canadian South Pacific Boxing Promotions programme will be staged at Prince Charles Park, Nadi next Friday.

The Savaii, Samoa native has settled in Tomuka, Lautoka after she got married eight years ago. Her interest in the sport grew after her husband transformed their garage into a gym.

“I don’t have any background in boxing but I always love the sport and it was a way for me to vent out my frustrations,” she said.

“But I was always shy to tell people about my love for boxing.”

Singh lost on points in her debut against Elenoa Matanisiga at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka in August.

“I have Wahid Khan as my trainer, so there have been no regrets. I did lose my first fight but I will use whatever I’ve learnt for this fight.” Singh said she has worked hard and hope to put on an improved performance in this fight.

“I want to be number one in Fiji and aim for a title fight. Some people think women cannot do boxing but women can do it.  It’s time for women to stand up and be counted.”
