The Minister for Employment, Industrial Relations and Productivity Jone Usamate reminded the business community in Levuka that it is necessary to have a healthy workers and employer’s relationship in enhancing productivity.

He held a talanoa session with the Levuka Business Community yesterday and discussed the minimum wage rate which came into force last month.

“I would like all of you to advocate the minimum wage rate of $2.68 per hour.

“Remember that the 10 different sectors have their own minimum wage requirements according to the wage regulation,” said Mr Usamate.

“It is illegal to pay your workers below the minimum wage rate.”

He reminded the Levuka business community that his Ministry is also helping to build a better Fiji for everyone.

“Most of the laws and regulation we enforce are based on the Fijian constitution such as the Employment Relations Act, the Health and Safety Act, the Workers Compensations Legislations and other regulations that we adhere to,” he said.

Levuka businessman Bhupen Kumar thanked the Ministry of Employment for coming to the old capital and holding talanoa sessions with the business community.
