Inter-island ferry service provider, Victoria Marine Limited, is content with the awarded Government shipping franchise scheme routes for this month.

The owner of MV Sea Rakino and MV Brianna was awarded threefranchise routes; Yasawa, 1st Upper Southern Lau and 2nd Northern Lau.

Company managing director, Joe Tagi, said the company found that the route they had been servicing in the past 11 months was a profitable one.

For theYasawa route, the port of call is Viwa: Naibalebale, Waya: Yalobi, Yasawa: Nacula, Bukama, Navotua, Naisisili amd Yasawa-i-rara. This will be a monthly trip by MV Sea Rakino.

For the 1st Upper Southern Lau route, the port of call is Vanuavatu, Lakeba, Nayau, Oneata, Moce, Komo and Namuka. This will be a fortnightly trip by MV Brianna.

For the 2nd Northern Lau route, the port of call is Yacata, Vanuabalavu, Cikobia, Tuvuca and Cicia. This will be a fortnightly trip by MV Brianna.

Mr Tagi said there was competition from small boats island hopping.

“There are many small boats from the island that also transport passengers and cargoes to Lautoka.

“But we still find it profitable servicing these routes,” Mr Tagi said.

He confirmed that the MV Sea Rakino left for its franchise run to the Yasawa last night.

“This is our normal franchise route for Yasawa Island,” he said.

The vessel will return to Lautoka on Friday

Meanwhile, the MV Brianna will leave for the 1st Upper Southern Lau today. The vessel returns to Suva on Sunday or next Monday, depending on the weather.
