The Ilaitia Tuilau-skippered Design Engineering Lautoka defeated Suva 2-0 in the last game of the 2017 Courts Inter-District Championship at the Churchill Park in Lautoka last night.

What happened: Former Ba rep Praneel Naidu had the Blues crowd cheering when he scored the first goal.

He made use of the opportunity by slotting home after a perfect pass from Dave Radrigai to beat goalkeeper Tevita Koroi.

The Blues were in control with the goalkeeper Beniamino Mateinaqara, Iliesa Lino, Zibraaz Saheb, Kavaia Rawaqa, Leisari Qalica, Valerio Nawatu, and Kolinio Sivoki dictating play.

Halftime: Lautoka 1-0 Suva.

The visitors played good football but its back four looked a bit fragile due to the departure of Jale Dreloa to the Babasiga Lions.

Radrigai was again at the thick of things this time laying in the platform for robust striker Samuela Drudru to seal the win.

Lautoka import and Australian import Magit Piok made a brief entry in the second half replacing Valerio Nawatu and was tightly marked.

Suva had the services of Epeli Leiroti, Leone Damudamu, Ivan Kumar, Kelvin Naidu, Setareki Hughes, Ravinesh Karan Singh, Waisake Navunigasau, and Bruce Hughes

Star turn: Zibraz Shahib for controlling the mid field for the Blues. Radrigai was awarded the day one top player.

Big Play: Ilaitia Tuilau for guiding the Blues.

Lautoka coach Kamal Swamy said: “We don’t want to give Suva the chances to play their game. The boys played well and they worked according to plan.”

Suva coach Sam Lal said: “I expected Lautoka to be tough, we had our chance but we failed. We hope to bounce back against Nadi otherwise we are out the of the tournament.”
