The Abbu Zahid-captained 4R Electrical Ba side became the first team to book a spot in the semi-final at the 2017 Courts Inter-District Championship on Saturday.

This was after ‘Men in Black’ edged Rewa with a 2-1 victory in their second pool play in front of 4500 crowd at Churchill Park, Lautoka last night.

Ba still has one game to play against winless Dreketi today.

However the result handed Ba six points from two wins to lead Pool B, Rewa on second with three while Labasa and Dreketi share a point each.

Pool A remains wide open after Design Engineering Lautoka drew 1-1 with surprise package Flick Tavua in a pulsating match.

The Blues have a total of four points to lead Pool A, Suva with three points after beating Nadi 3-0, Tavua settle with two points from two draws and Jack’s Nadi with a point from one draw.

What happened: The ‘Men in Black’ knows Rewa are in to claim their third tiltle after it won the Battle of the Giants and Fijian FACT earlier this season.

Ba started well with its traditional fast-pace football and it paid dividend in the 42nd minute.

In-form striker Mavileko Nakama slotted the goal to beat goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau from outside the box.

Halftime: Ba 1 – 0 Rewa.

Rewa pulled one back through Jonetani Buksh early in the second half after a good set up from midfield.

Ba rallied their attacks and finally welcomed their winning goal in the 63rd  minute after Samuela Nabenia crossed to Sitiveni Cavuilagi.

Big Play: Young Kishan Sami was outstanding in setting up attacking moves for Ba and also threatened Rewa goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau with some powerful attempts.

Star Turn: Striker Nabenia looked dangerous every time he had possession and he was instrumental in setting up the second and winning goal for Ba

Ba captain Abbu Zahid said, “The giants have finally awakened. We are simply gunning for our 25th IDC title.

“The match was an interesting one, as we did anticipate Rewa to be as good as they can be but we worked bit harder to come out victorious.

“We want other teams to bring their best.  I congratulate my teammates,” he said.

Rewa coach Marika Rodu said, “It was a good game unfortunately we had to settle this way as we wanted a win as well.

“Now we have to work hard in the next match.”
