Fiji Airways confirmed that its Boeing 737-700 FJ822 enroute from Kiritimati (Christmas) Island in Kiribati to Honolulu, Hawaii landed safely yesterday.

This was after it experienced a loss of pressurisation because of an engine air-system fault, Fiji Airways reported.

The crew followed standard operating procedures and made a rapid descent to 10,000 feet, and updated Air Traffic Control at Honolulu airport. Oxygen masks were deployed due to the loss of cabin pressure.

However, the 73 passengers and six crew members on board landed normally and the passengers were disembarked via the aerobridge into the terminal.

All customers were assisted with onward bookings and offered other assistance as required.

The B737-700 was fully serviceable at departure from Kiritimati Island.

The plane is a smaller version of the Boeing 737-800s series which makes up the bulk of the Fiji Airways Boeing 737 fleet.

A Fiji Airways engineering team is working with Boeing to return the aircraft to active service.
