Chand Plants Trees in Labasa Then Goes to Suva for Pageant Launch

Miss Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North Sheral Chand yesterday was part of Labasa town’s tree planting initiative. She flies to Suva today for the launching of the Miss Fiji Pageant.

“It is an honour and privilege to join many organisations, schools and various Government departments to plant trees in an effort to fight climate change,” Ms Chand said.

The 23-year-old nurse who is originally from Delailabasa was part of the Labasa Town Council programme that saw the planting of 15 fruit bearing and native trees along the town boundary.

“I am aware of the many challenges that I will face as Miss Labasa entering this pageant but I am prepared for it,” she said.

“I would like to urge the people of the North to support me in my effort to raise awareness on climate change.”

The Miss Fiji pageant begins on October 20.

Meanwhile, the special administrator of Labasa and Savusavu Town Council Vijay Chand said the tree planting programme was a joint effort with the the Ministry of Local Government.

“We are building up towards the green town competition,” Mr Chand said.

“We would like to urge the rate payers living in and around Labasa Town to plant trees as many as possible as mediation for climate change.”

He said the Labasa Town Council was thankful to have Miss Chand join this tree planting programme.
