Early morning studies paid off for Suva Sangam School dux, Manisha Benazir, who took out the top academic award yesterday at the school’s prize giving ceremony in Suva.

Manisha, 18, who joined Suva Sangam College this year missed her dad dearly as she went up to the stage to collect her various awards. She not only won the Dux award, but the syndicate award for computer, accounting and economics, best commerce and computer student for Year 13 award and lastly she won the year 13 syndicate award.

“It’s really surprising and fascinating and it feels really wonderful,” Manisha said after the prizegiving.

“I used to wake up at 3am and study till 3.30am to 4am because I believe when you study in the morning there is a lot of peace and quiet to help you concentrate,” said Manisha.

She acknowledged her teachers for the weekly tests which were very helpful in preparing her for the main exams.

Manisha plans to do international business management and human resources next year at the University of the South Pacific.

“My mum has been a great support in my life and she has been through my ups and downs and since my father’s death 18 years ago she has been with me and supporting me in everything all these years,” she said.

Manisha’s mother Mariam Bi felt really proud of her daughter and was encouraged to see the woman she is growing into.

“I am a proud mother today looking at my daughter receive this dux award as this was her first year in this school, if her father were still alive he would be so proud looking at her holding this trophy,” said Ms Bi.
