We only have one earth. Let’s leave it better than we found it for a better and brighter future.

This was one of the many messages written on the masi scrolls which will be displayed at the Pre-COP conference in Nadi next week and at the Conference of the Parties (COP) 23 in Bonn, Germany next month.

Three pieces of masi were displayed at the My Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) Centre in Suva.  Members of the public were given the opportunity to write their messages about climate change which was later handed over to the COP 23 Presidency Secretariat at the centre on Wednesday.

The messages on masi was an initiative by the Fund. It will enable world leaders to read what Fijians think about climate change and how it affects everyone.

FNPF chief operating officer Jaoji Koroi presented the masi scrolls to the COP23 Presidency Secretariat executive director John Connor.

Mr Koroi said they were overwhelmed with the feedback from the public and humbled that they had responded positively to the initiative.

“We are mindful of Government’s preparations for COP23 and are grateful that we were given this opportunity that allowed us to host meaningful activities drawing attention to this issue of climate change which is a threat to us all. FNPF and its members hope that the messages on these scrolls will influence some changes amongst world leaders,” Mr Koroi said.

The masi scrolls will be shared as Fiji’s culture and tradition to the world leaders.

“The important part is that we will share the voice of Fiji to the rest of the world and influence world leaders. There is nothing more important than highlighting the importance of climate change mixed with our cultural values and initiatives,” Mr Connor said. Edited by Rosi Doviverata
