Nadroga’s goal-scoring hero Shalvin Singh sealed the Stallions a semi-final spot in the senior division of the Courts Interdistrict Championship at Churchill Park, Lautoka yesterday.

He scored in the 78th minute as they beat Savusavu 1-0 in the last pool game and play Tailevu/Naitasiri for a spot in the final.

Nadroga captain Tomasi Tuicakau said they aim to win their first silverware in the senior division since their relegation in 2016.

“We are happy to be the first team to qualify for the semi-final,” he said.

“We hope to continue the momentum and I have faith and confidence in our players.”

The side is coached by Kaminieli Tuilawaki, a former Nadroga player.

The Stallions last won a premier division title in 1999 beating Rewa 2-1. But Nadroga won the IDC premier division competition three times including the back-to-back wins in 1988 and 1989.

They last won hoisted the trophy in 1993 beating Nasinu 1-0 at Govind Park, Ba. They also finished as runners-up in 1986, 1991 and 1992

In the other match, striker Shivneel Ram scored the winning goal for Tailevu/Naitasiri as they pipped Nadogo 1-0.

Coach Sureshwar Prasad said it was a tough game.

“We scored towards the end of the match and we’re happy for that,” he said.

“We are hopeful that the boys can perform better in the semi-final.”

Tailevu/Naitasiri Football was founded in 1943 and has appeared in nine finals winning four times in 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2012.

Other results of the senior division saw Rakiraki edge out Lami 2–1 while Navua beat Seaqaqa with the same goal margin at Nadovu Park.

Navua, who topped Pool B, will face winner Savusavu in the other  semi-final  on Saturday
