Star full-back Billy Slater rates Melbourne Storm teammates and Vodafone Fijian Bati players Suliasi Vunivalu and Tui Kamikamica ahead of the Tri Nations clash at the ANZ Stadium, Suva tomorrow.

The Australian Kangaroos arrived last night for the international friendly against the Bati and Papua New Guinea Kumuls.

“Both are good rugby league players and passionate to play for the Fiji Bati,” Slater said.

“The Tri Nations competition will not be easy coming up against these guys especially on their home soil. But we are all looking forward to the game this Saturday.”

The 34-year-old is in the country with his wife and two children and believes the Tri Nations concept is a good build-up to the Rugby League World Cup later this month and also assist in the development of the game in the Pacific.

“This is the first time for the Kangaroos to play in Fiji and it’s very exciting to come here.

“Fijian people love their rugby league, obviously, they are big supporters of rugby union but the popularity of league is growing here.

“It will be a different atmosphere on Saturday night.”

Kangaroos captain Cameron Smith echoed the same sentiments.

“The idea of Tri Nations is a great idea and concept for Fiji and PNG.

“First time to play on Fijian soil, I have come to Fiji couple of times for holiday. But this is different,  my whole family is here, my wife and three children so this is our third time in Fiji and first time in Suva,” Smith said.

The RLWC gets underway on October 27 and will be played in Australia, New Zealand and PNG.
