Four bures at Koro Sun Resort and Rainforest Spa in Savusavu were destroyed in a fire on Tuesday night.

Resort manager Margaret Rayawa confirmed the incident yesterday.

“We are lucky to have contained the fire which affected four of our 50 bures.” Mrs Rayawa said.

Mrs Rayawa thanked resort staff and the Savusavu fire officers for putting out the fire without any loss of life or injury to staff and guests.

“The cause of fire is unknown and business is operating as normal,” she said.

A statement from the National Fire Authority (NFA) confirmed the incident.

The NFA statement said that at 9.23pm, the Savusavu Fire Station had received a fire emergency call which they immediately responded to.

The Fire Team had arrived at the scene at 9.37pm and saw the concrete and wooden structured villas at the seaside fully engulfed in flames.

The NFA statement further said that the Fire Team used water tank supply at the resort to extinguish the fire.

NFA confirmed that three tourist villas and a dive shop were destroyed while their team managed to save two other neighbouring villas, a seaside restaurant and a kitchen from the fire.

NFA investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
