Two marine surveyors from the Fiji Maritime Safety Authority (MSAF) will depart the country this week  for Canada to inspect the MV Lomaiviti Princess V.

The vessel, Goundar Shipping Limited’s latest addition is currently on dry dock in Vancouver for maintenance, cleaning, painting and installation of the aft car ramp.

In the meantime, GSL owner and managing director George Goundar, said his crew were being trained by the vessel’s previous owner, BC Ferries.

The vessel still bears the name, Queen of Nanaimo which will be changed before they bring it to Fiji next month.

“The crew are enjoying in Vancouver despite the cold. We had sea trials last Friday and Captain Inoke Radrodro and the crew were very impressed,” Mr Goundar said.

He said the MSAF surveyors will conduct an inspection of the vessel before the greenlight is given for it to sail to Fiji.

All expenses will be incurred by GSL.

They are expected to depart Canada on November 10 with a formal welcome celebration to be held once here.

For the last six years, GSL is the only company that has invested heavily in Fiji’s shipping industry.

“With five vessels under GSL, we are proud to say that we are here for the people, our employees and the travelling public. I am passionate about the industry and aim to see that we will provide the best services regardless of criticisms,” Mr Goundar said.
