While lease has been secured for land to build the Ratu Simione Junior Secondary School there is no fund for its construction.

Ministry of Education (MOE) Director Assets Monitoring Unit Serupepeli Udre said so following a query raised at the Namosi Provincial Council in Navua meeting yesterday.

Mr Udre while seeking the understanding of the people of Namosi said the school would be built as soon as funds were available for construction.

There are two secondary schools in Navua – Vashist Muni College and Rampur College, while there are another two at Namosi.

A delegate Maciu Katamatu said it was time that the new secondary school was established because it was hard to find secondary schools for Namosi students in Navua.

A report on education in Namosi said that many families had left their village and the excuse given was for them to support their children’s education.

There are two secondary schools in Namosi – Namosi Secondary School and the Wainimakutu Secondary School.

Mr Katamatu said the secondary schools in Navua had places for their primary students only.

He said they usually had to wait during enrolment but most of the time they were turned away because no places were available.

Mr Katamatu said for the province to improve in education, there should a secondary school in Navua specifically allocated for Namosi students.
