The main streets of Nadi town will soon have a new look as footpath rehabilitation works started this week.

Fiji Roads Authority chief executive officer Jonathan Moore said the construction had started on Wednesday and was expected to end next year on January 15.

He added construction works had started on the footpath for people’s safety to prevent them from falling due to an uneven footpath.

Mr Moore added that it was part of the structural requirement and it would give more space to people when walking around Nadi Town.

Meanwhile, Nadi Town Council chief executive officer Peter Dining could not make any comment yesterday on this.

However, he had confirmed that the contract was under the Fiji Roads Authority. Mr Dining said the construction works was currently carried out by Fair Deal.

In a statement, the town council in partnership with FRA would commence the footpath rehabilitation programme for a large portion of Nadi’s Main Street which served the Central Business District (CBD).

The public have been notified that the council would provide 12-24 hour notice when work commenced on these footpath sections adjacent to their premises.

Construction work would be carried out daily from 6pm to 6am.
