The Nawaitauvou Virgin Coconut Oil Company based in the Yasawa Group has made use of the natural resources in order to establish its business.

Mesake and Sesarina Nawaitauvou first began their business in 2012 by producing only virgin coconut oil.

Today, the business has expanded and they have diversified into making other products like noni juice, jams (mango, pineapple and pawpaw), breadfruit chips, soaps and dish washing paste.

The company showcased their products during the Western Agriculture Show at Koroivulu Park in Nadi yesterday.

Mr and Mrs Nawaitauvou with the help of the Ministry of Agriculture were able to have the finished products on display at the show.

“We are thankful to the Ministry of Agriculture for providing us with the machines and the generator,” he said.

“My wife and I did everything ourselves.

“We used the natural palm leaves, and got the other remaining organics we needed from the farms.

“Some things are done by hand like the scraping of the coconut which takes two hours for 40 coconuts and with that it can hold 22 bottles.

“For the soaps it can take around one-and-half hours to mould the soap.”

Lessons for others

The company has bloomed because they have always placed their success on hard work.

“People fail to see there are blessings around us that we need to make use of, but rather they fail to see its significance and how this can make our lives better,” Mr Nawaitauvou said.

“People need to have faith and determination to work hard and achieve their goals, times are hard so we need to be smart if we want to make money.”

They have future plans to buy a water tank to help in the running of their business.
