Agricultural Marketing Authority trading as Fiji AgroMarketing, will be assisting farmers in accessing international markets through their produces.

Fiji Agro Marketing Survey Officer James Antonio said as part of the government initiative to help farmers’ sustainability, they to get farmers more aware of.

“The main purpose is to try and access markets for farmers mainly farmers in rural areas and maritime areas to allow them to get their produces bought,” he said.

“Some have no markets while others have access to market but have associated costs in terms of transportation and carrier chargers.

“Instead for them having to pay for extra fares, they do not need take the produce to the market we go directly to the farms and the root crops are peeled, processed and exported.”

Mr Antonio added their main targeted markets are New Zealand and Australia where demands are high.

“We have a lot of overseas markets mainly in New Zealand and Australia where farmers are from the central, northern divisions and the western division.

“Farmers call us up, depending on the orders we give them how much they have harvest and they give the tonnes we need.

“Other vegetables consist of breadfruit, jack fruit, bele, moca, ivi which are also bought and processed overseas. Apart from root crops we also buy honey and yaqona from Taveuni and Savusavu.”

Representatives from Fiji Agro Marketing were at Koroivulu Park for the Western Agriculture show, which ended yesterday.
