Akuila Koroimata did not let his level of education stop him from reaching his goals.

The Yaro man from Malolo Island has been with the Mana Island Resort and Spa for over 25 years.

He has moved up the ladder from being a waiter to an assistant manager for the resort’s restaurant which  caters for over a thousand guests in a year.

Now at the age of 50, Mr Koroimata says his interest has always been with the hospitality industry and never has he regretted the choices he made.

“I left school at the age of 14. When I reached the age 24, I was employed by the hotel as a waiter,” he said.

“After spending seven years as a waiter, the Management saw the leadership qualities that I possessed and so they put me through training and promoted me as supervisor.

“It was not long before that, my promotion came to be an assistant manager for the Food and Beverage Department.”

Mr Koroimata said the best experience he had with the hotel was meeting new people and he continues to be a role model to his staff.

“If you have the passion for this type of work you will love it.

“So everyday has been my best experience because I get to meet new people.

“The hotel has given me a lot of experiences and training, which has built up my career, my biggest motivation has always been my family who have always supported me as well,” he added.

His advice to young people who wish to take up a career in the hospitality sector is to seek proper education, and never lose the  passion in something that you love to do, because that can be the biggest driver to your achieving your ultimate goal.
