One of the biggest challenges faced by Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) now is for their members to increase their balance so that they do not suffer when they retire.

This was revealed by the FNPF chief operating officer Jaoji Koroi during the annual member forum at FNPF building in Labasa yesterday.

“We don’t want to see our members having insufficient fund forcing them to change their plan during their retirement,” Mr Koroi said.

“We want members to enjoy their lives with comfort after they retire at the age of 55.

“Hence, I have requested Labasa members to engage with us and discuss about their retirement plan as soon as they start working so that they have enough saving to enjoy in future.”

During the forum attended by more than a hundred members Mr Koroi informed them that last year FNPF declared a 6.35 per cent interest that resulted in $270 million being credited to members’ accounts.

He advised them to talk to them when they face problems so that they can help.

Mr Koroi said they can’t work in isolation.

He revealed to the members that what was so sad to note that there are still some employers not making contribution for their employees.

“We want employees to inform us when their employers fail to make contribution,” he said.

“Unless and until they (employee) don’t contact us we won’t be able to take immediate action.

“Members can contact us through customer complaint line and toll free line.

We have increased our level of awareness to involve engagement with members so that they can have a good understanding of what FNPF is doing and how we work.”

Some of the members raised their concern about the need to improve their services to which Mr Koroi agreed that they are working on it.
