Vodafone Fijian football coach Christophe Gamel believes the international friendly match against Estonia will be a good test for his team.

The Frenchman knows that he will be able to judge where his team stands when the final whistle blows at Suva’s ANZ Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Gamel has faced a lot of difficulties in preparations in terms of play availability and playing top class matches.

He wants to play some quality opponents before playing a team like Estonia but unfortunately that could not eventuate. The national coach is optimistic that he will come out with a lot to learn from the match against Estonia.

“The players are physically fit and strong but technically I think we still have a lot of work to do. Estonia plays a fast paced game and I would like to see my players match-up to that. I am looking forward to see how my players respond to the challenge they receive on the field.”

Gamel says the difficulties in training is now behind them.

“Every team faces difficulties and we also did. There are some experienced players who have missed out but no problem. It is a setback, but not an issue. I just want my players to go out and enjoy their match.”

He adds that it is not about winning this weekend, but to continue from where they left off in their last match

“It’s not a problem even if we lose, we should continue to apply with consistency, hard work against a hard team, the type of play and philosophy of our project. I hope that the people come with a positive mind-set to support the team.”

Gamel names his 23-member squad tomorrow.
