‘She means the world to me. Without her I would not have come this far…’

Eighteen-year old Cilia Rokobue of Baulevu High School was in tears as she dedicated her award to her grandmother.

The lass from Nadarivatu in Naitasiri said she never expected to receive the Outstanding Student of the Year award and wished her 60-year-old grandmother was with her yesterday.

“My parents have separated and I live with my grandmother in Baulevu. She has been supporting me with my education,” Cilia said.

“On Parents Day when she would see my position and marks, she will tell me to work harder and aim higher.”

Cilia said she looked forward to going home and sharing the joy of her achievement with the one person who has been guiding her all along.

“She means the world to me. Without her I would not have come this far and I hope to make her even more proud of me in the future,” she said.

She was also happy to see her father at the awards ceremony.

She said: “No matter what background we may come from, nothing should stop us from being successful, just be dedicated and work hard.”

She also came second in her form.

Cilia hopes to study at the University of the South Pacific next year.
