Douglas Pharmaceuticals of New Zealand has invested $10 million in the opening of an extended part of the facility in Nadi yesterday.

Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the pharmaceutical company’s investment was a show of confidence in Fiji and its economy.

“The Government is very keen and very supportive of such investments and we would like to thank Douglas Pharmaceuticals for having faith in Fiji and to want to expand their facility in Fiji,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

He said such investments helped Government with its drive and focus on economic growth.

“Government has been at the forefront of driving economic growth in Fiji,” he said.

“Economic growth means creation of new jobs, it means an improvement in the living standards of our people, it means things like free education, free textbooks, subsidised bus fares and of course with the scholarship system and the TELS programme that we have developed now for the education system.

“All of these feeds into what we are seeing as opportunities for ordinary Fijians on a daily basis. Of course there is a need to ensure that we continue to improve our services as government, firstly to our investors like Douglas Pharmaceuticals.”

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum acknowledged the company saying that it was investments as such which made it possible for Government to continue looking after and bettering the lives of Fijians.
