A Suva man alleged to have robbed $86,350 worth of items on August 29, this year, pleaded not guilty at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Kitione Cagi appeared before judge Justice Riyaz Hamza.

He is charged alongside Emosi Baleidrokadroka, who is currently on a bench warrant. The court heard that Baleidrokadroka was granted bail at the Magistrates Court without sureties.

Cagi who is currently in remand pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery.

On the first count, he along with others allegedly stole a Samsung 7 phone worth $1500, a Kia 3 smart watch worth $1000, a $300 Swiss watch, a brown German watch worth $1000, a National Assembly Korean watch valued at $300, a black leather wallet with $150 cash, ATM cards and some cash, a black label bottle of whiskey worth $100, a blue label bottle of whiskey worth $300, a bottle of Chivas Regal Whiskey worth $180, a bottle of Champagne costing $400, 15 bottles of other assorted alcohol worth $2000 and a Kia Sorento vehicle valued at $65,000.

The total cost of items stolen was $72,230.

On the same day, Cagi is also alleged to have stolen $250 cash, a gold ring valued at $2000, a pair of 18-carat gold earrings worth $300, a ring costing $2500, an 18-carat gold chain worth $1000, a ring worth $5000, a $300 wrist watch, a HP laptop worth $1500, a pink apple iPod worth $500, a translator machine valued at $500, an Adidas shoes worth $200, a Nike shoes worth $300, a black Puma bag worth $120 and a black jacket worth $150.

All the items stolen had a total value of $14,120.

During proceedings of the case, the accused reversed his earlier refusal to counsel and indicated that he wanted legal representation.

Legal Aid Commission lawyer Vani Filipe who was appearing for second accused Baleidrokadroka was requested by Justice Hamza to assist Cagi with filing his voir dire grounds.

The accused was further advised to file a formal application to get legal representation. The case was adjourned to December 7 for Cagi’s bail hearing while the substantive matter was adjourned to December 14 for mention.

Cagi was further remanded.
