Even those who have fallen on the wrong side of the law also have an inner beauty to express.

These were the words of Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Land and Mineral Resources Faiyaz Koya during the opening of the ‘Blooming Inside’ Art Exhibition on Thursday night.

The exhibition of artwork by the inmates of the Fiji Corrections Service was a relentless endeavour to harness and expose inmates’ artistic and creative talents.

Sixty per cent of the proceeds earned from paintings sold would go directly into the inmates’ bank accounts which they will collect after they are discharged.

The remaining forty per cent goes towards buying of painting materials and other necessary art equipment.

Mr Koya said it was crucial that visitors to the Tagimoucia Art Gallery assist the Corrections Service in reintegrating former offenders.

He said the successful reintegration of offenders into communities was the best form of rehabilitation.

The minister added that everyone deserves a second chance to make things right.

“I have been informed that most visitors who do visit the art gallery, are touched by the flower paintings,” he said.

“This is because they know that flowers usually express the celebration of joy and beauty and the regeneration of life.”

He said seeing the expressions emanate from Corrections institutions made people realise that we are all human beings who deserve a second chance.

Mr Koya encouraged guests to support the contributions made by the Art gallery and the Yellow Ribbon Project and further acknowledged the work done by the Corrections Service.
